When dementia changes the conversation
Respond to repeated questions, accusations, agitation, or resistance with language fitted to the immediate need—not an argument about whose reality is correct.
Why this gets stuck
The words may repeat, but the need underneath them can change: reassurance, orientation, pain relief, familiarity, rest, or a way to feel in control. A response that is factually correct can still increase distress.
What Nestoa can help you do
- Look for patterns, triggers, and unmet physical needs before choosing words.
- Use shorter responses, calm tone, reassurance, and redirection when appropriate.
- Prepare a fallback response for a question or accusation that returns.
- Record observable changes to discuss with a clinician.
- Recognize sudden or severe changes that need urgent assessment.
What Nestoa cannot decide
- Nestoa cannot diagnose dementia, delirium, infection, medication effects, or pain.
- It cannot tell whether an abrupt behavior change is medically safe to watch at home.
- It does not replace a personalized care plan from qualified professionals.
